As part of the SCOPxE (Sharing a Common Operating Picture Across Echelons) research effort, Mixed Reality Lab (MxR) Director David Nelson, Creative Producer David Cobbins, and Lead Programmer Rhys Yahata embedded with NTC staff observing the 4-23 SBCT “Tomahawks” from Joint Base Lewis–McChord during a live Brigade-level exercise at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, CA.

The team gained invaluable firsthand insight into the tempo and complexity of multi-echelon C2 operations, observing the tactical seizure of the simulated town of Barasu. From dismounted squad-level maneuvers through contested urban terrain, to high-level communications flowing from Company to Battalion and up to Brigade, this boots-on-ground experience is helping to shape the team’s design of next-generation C2 visualizations and MR user interfaces.
