BIOSTORM - A STORY OF FUTURE WAR by Anthony DeCapite

As part of a series looking back at 25 Years of Wargaming at ICT, we’re pleased to publish an important piece from our archives: BIOSTORM, a Story of Future War, written by Anthony DeCapite.

BIOSTORM is military futurist fiction, based on ideas which emerged from ICT’s SciTech Futures Technology Foresight Game: Bioconvergence and the Soldier of 2050, which was conducted in 2017, supported by the SciTech Futures Technology Effort under the office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (Research & Technology)

An extract first appeared in Mad Scientist Laboratory, a marketplace of ideas about the future of society, work, and conflict, from United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC)

BIOSTORM’s author is US Marine veteran Anthony DeCapite, a novelist, screenwriter, director, and videographer. DeCapite enlisted in the US Marines straight out of high school, in 2004, and served until 2009. He was stationed primarily in Okinawa, Japan, but also deployed to Bangladesh (cyclone response), the Philippines (Operation Enduring Freedom), and Korea. DeCapite came to USC to study Screenwriting at USC School of Cinematic Arts, and worked at ICT as a Creative Content Manager (2015 – 2024). During that time, he delivered stories to bring numerous projects to life, including One World Terrain, The Synthetic Training Environment, SciTech Futures fiction (BIOSTORM), graphic novels (CITY WITHOUT SHADOWS) and virtual Soldiers for immersive training experiences. DeCapite was also the director, co-writer and cinematographer of ICT’s Overview Video
