Brigadier General Tamara L. Campbell, Commanding General of Marine Corps Systems Command, visited the USC Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) today, a Department of Defense-sponsored University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), sponsored by the US Army. BG Campbell was accompanied by Sgt Maj Heider and Captain Connor Hayes, Aide-de-Camp.
A native of Boston, Massachusetts, BG Campbell was commissioned into the Marine Corps in 1997 after graduating from the United States Naval Academy and holds advanced degrees in Program Management, Financial Management, and National Security and Resource Strategy. She has served in a wide range of operational and program management roles across the Marine Corps, including leadership positions at NAVAIR and Marine Corps Systems Command. Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (x3), Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (x3), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x2).
During her visit, Brig. Gen. Campbell toured ICT labs and observed demonstrations from:
- Mixed Reality (MxR) Lab – David Nelson
- Human-Centered AI Lab – Dr. Ning Wang
- Affective Computing Lab – Dr. Jonathan Gratch
- Geospatial Terrain Research Lab – Dr. Meida Chen
The visit underscored the value of collaboration between military leadership and ICT researchers, exploring innovations in mixed reality, AI, human-computer interaction, and geospatial analysis.
