USC Today Spotlights ICT’s Leadership in AI for Military Education

The Institute for Creative Technologies is featured in USC Today for its role in advancing AI through the Artificial Intelligence Research Center of Excellence for Education (AIRCOEE)—a $4.5 million, congressionally funded initiative, led by Dr. Benjamin Nye, Dr. Ning Wang, and Dr. William Swartout.

AIRCOEE explores how AI can support—not replace—learning across the military. One early success is the Army Writing Enhancement (AWE) tool, which helps soldiers strengthen their writing and critical thinking. AWE integrates into platforms like Google Docs and Microsoft 365, offering AI feedback on structure, clarity, and reasoning while keeping the soldier firmly in the writer’s seat. Early trials show it’s already making a difference.
