NY Times Looks at PTSD Treatment

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a growing problem, especially with the increasing number of veterans returning from duty in the Middle East. Traditional treatments have varying success rates, and often require extended personal therapy work. ”Exposure Therapy,” where patients reengage and recount the original stimuli has been a first-line treatment for quite some time. Virtual reality technologies developed at the ICT have been implemented in simulators that are now taking these methodologies to new levels. ICT researcher Dr. Albert Rizzo, who helped develop the simulator, said, “It’s a hard treatment for a very hard problem.”
