An article about the Pentagon’s high-tech efforts to counter the threat of low-tech IEDs highlighted the Mobile Counter IED Trainer (MCIT), which uses well-crafted stories to impart a framework for understanding counter-IED lessons and a role-playing video game that engages young trainees and reinforces lessons by asking them to think like insurgents. The article also mentioned the widespread use of ICT’s Virtual Iraq system for treating PTSD as part of a larger trend by the military to use virtual reality, 3-D technology and computer game software to train deploying troops and treat combat-scarred veterans.
