Skip Rizzo, ICT’s associate director for medical virtual reality, appeared on local NPR affiliate KPCC’s Pat Morrison Show to discuss different approaches to address how best to help people deal with trauma memories. Rizzo spoke of his work developing a virtual reality exposure therapy to therapy to treat PTSD and also mentioned an ongoing clinical trail that combines virtual reality exposure therapy with a drug therapy. Also appearing on the program was Rick Huganir, professor and director of the department of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Huginar is conducting research exploring whether proteins can be removed from the brain’s fear center which may be able to erase traumatic memories forever.
