ICT researchers visited Eyeline Studios, part of Scanline VFX, Powered by Netflix, the company’s innovation and R&D hub for virtual production and visual effects.

During the visit, the Geospatial Terrain Research Lab presented their recent research progress, including their SIGGRAPH 2025 paper Deformable Beta Splatting and follow-up work Universal Beta Splatting, to Paul Debevec, Chief Research Officer and his group.

Afterwards, the ICT group toured the studio’s Light Dome Stage and 4D volumetric capture system, cutting-edge facilities for high-fidelity actor capture, volumetric scene reconstruction, and LED volume production used in film and streaming content. Eyeline Studios is a key hub for Netflix’s work in computer vision, graphics, and machine learning, enabling researchers to align new technologies with practical virtual production workflows.

During the visit, the ICT team discussed how Beta Splatting could enhance both virtual human rendering and large-scale terrain visualization. The session highlighted potential applications in cinematic production, interactive media, and simulation environments, demonstrating how ICT research bridges academic innovation and industry practice.

The visit illustrates ICT’s ongoing mission to integrate geospatial simulation and digital human research with state-of-the-art virtual production tools, fostering partnerships that advance both cinematic storytelling and simulation-based training.
