Dr. Randall W. Hill, Jr Featured in Fox News Digital on Responsible AI in Military Training
Dr. Randall W. Hill, Jr., Executive Director of the USC Institute for Creative Technologies, was recently interviewed by Morgan Phillips, National Security Reporter for Fox News Digital, in a wide-ranging piece exploring the integration of artificial intelligence into military preparedness.
In the interview, Dr. Hill underscored the importance of ensuring AI systems are transparent, reliable, and values-aligned.
“We need protocols aligned with American values,” he said. “The AI must be explainable and capable of justifying its conclusions — and humans must recognize when those systems are outside their trained boundaries.”
He also emphasized that education and training are key to building trust and understanding between human operators and AI-enabled systems.
“It’s important to train not just with AI but also about AI — so soldiers understand where to trust it and where its limits are.”
Dr. Hill highlighted ICT’s work developing PAL3, a personalised AI teaching assistant designed to adapt to the learning pace of each trainee.
“It’s about helping both humans and machines understand each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” he noted.
