Dr. Thomas Talbot was recognized by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare with the 2023 Virtual Simulation Award for Service.
This award recognizes him for over ten years of service to the Serious Games and Virtual Environments Section (now Virtual Simulations) during which he worked to expand knowledge expertise on Serious Games, Virtual & Mixed Reality, Medical Fidelity & Physiology, including serving repeatedly as Judge for the SimVentor’s Innovation Contest.
Along with serving as Technology Chair for the world’s largest simulation society, he is being recognized as an innovator who has received more than ten international simulation and serious game awards, including the Federal Health IT Innovation Award (Public Physiology Research Program/BioGears).
He is best known for major advancements in the field of Virtual Standardized Patients and has created nearly fifty simulation systems over his career. Dr. Talbot has served as the Principal Medical Expert at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies for twelve years retiring from active duty in the US Army. At ICT, he has continued to push boundaries of affective computing, virtual human medical interactions, simulated physiology and mixed reality interfaces.
