Bill Swartout, director of technology at ICT, will give the Robert Engelmore Memorial Award Lecture at the 2009 Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence conference 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 14, in Pasadena, Calif.. Swartout, is this year’s recipient of the Engelmore Award, presented annually to an individual who has shown extraordinary service to AAAI and the AI community. In conjunction with the award, the recipient is invited to present a keynote lecture at the IAAI conference, and to prepare a companion article for AI Magazine. The award was established in 2003 to honor Dr. Robert S. Engelmore’s extraordinary service to AAAI, AI Magazine, and the AI applications community, and his contributions to applied AI. In his talk, Swartout will discuss the synergies among the different threads of AI research that are leading to the goal of computer-generated characters that look and behave just like real people.
