Virtual NICoE

2011-2013
Project Leader: Jacki Morie

Virtual NICoE is a partnership between the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) and the University of Southern California Institute for Creative Technologies. NICoE is the Department of Defense’s premier research institute for traumatic brain injury and psychological health conditions and is located in Bethesda, MD. We have built a virtual version of ┬áNICoE, where each department will place educational materials, activities and ongoing connectivity for their patients to utilize while they are in their four week program at NICoE and after they leave. Year 1 (2011-2012) focused on building a version of NICoE for use in the virtual world, on working with NICoE leadership to determine appropriate content to be included in the project, and also on training the staff in the use of virtual worlds. Year 2 will allow stakeholders to test and enhance the functionality of the Virtual NICoE platform to ensure maximum functionality. In Year 3 we will involve a patient cohort for focused studies on effectiveness.
