Project Description

The Story Representation and Management project at ICT is developing new Artificial Intelligence technologies for collection, analyzing, and reasoning with millions of textual personal stories collected from Internet weblogs. In harvesting and analyzing the millions of stories that people tell about their daily lives, this project is working to solve fundamental problems in commonsense reasoning and social simulation by utilizing the collective experiences of all of humanity. 


Job Description

The Story Representation and Management project at ICT is seeking graduate students or accomplished undergraduate students for internships in the summer of 2009. Successful applicants will have a strong interest in storytelling and the social web, and will have experience and interests in a wide range of natural language processing techniques, with technical skills in one or more of the following areas:

- Statistical text classification
- Syntactic parsing
- Statistical approaches to discourse processing
- First order predicate logic
- Dialogue management systems

Students participating in this internship are expected to work with project team members to develop and execute a program of research, largely in a self-directed manner. This work should be conducted with the intention of producing publishable research results by the end of the internship.
