Virtual Patients
Project Description
The Virtual Patient project takes the advanced virtual human technology and applies it to the medical domain to create interactive engaging characters that can be used as teaching and training tools for clinicians to practice interviewing techniques, diagnosis and interpersonal social engagements. The project is pushing the limits on trying to create believable characters that exhibit a wide range of mental issues that are manifest in their verbal and non-verbal behavior. The project also performs many subject testing scenarios to gather data on how people interact with the system, the believability of the characters and how they can be effectively used in the clinical medical domain.
Job Description
Assist in domain development for the virtual patients, this can include programming and/or development of the natural language, non-verbal behavior and using the Virtual Human Toolkit technology. Updating the virtual characters to use new components and creating tools to develop domains.
Perform subject testing with the virtual patient, this includes setting up the system, recording data, running subjects, administrating questionnaires, transcribing data.
Skills Recommendations:
Programming in Java, C/C++ under a windows environment.
Knowledge of AI techniques.
Interested in working with Natural Language, computer graphics, virtual human characters, non-verbal behavior.
Interested in medical applications of virtual humans and Artificial intelligence.
Hard worker, communicates well in a team.
